AI Assist

AI Assist helps you create and refine Renamerlets from plain-language prompts.

AI Assist runs locally on your Mac after the model is installed, so your filenames and prompts stay on your computer.

Set up AI Assist

1. Open File > Generate Renamerlet....
2. In the dialog, choose AI Assist.
3. If needed, click Download model (~1.8 GB) in the setup step.
4. When setup is complete, continue to the prompt step.

If a newer model is available, you can install it from the same setup flow using Update model.

Create a Renamerlet with AI Assist

1. Open File > Generate Renamerlet....
2. Enter a name for the Renamerlet.
3. Select AI Assist, then click Next.
4. Describe how your files should be renamed.
5. Click Generate.
6. Review the suggested actions, then continue to create the Renamerlet.

After creation, you can edit all generated actions manually in the main Renamer window.

Prompt tips

• Be specific about order and formatting.
• Mention separators and case changes explicitly.
• Include numbering details (start value, step, digits) when needed.
• Call out whether extensions should be changed or kept.

Examples:

• Prefix with YYYY-MM-DD, replace spaces with underscores, then append 3-digit numbering starting at 001.
• Rename music files to track number - artist - title.
• Transliterate filenames to Latin, convert to lowercase, and replace spaces with hyphens.

Troubleshooting

• If AI Assist is unavailable, open the setup wizard and verify model data is installed.
• If generation fails, try a more specific prompt and use Try again.
• If needed, choose Create without AI and build the chain manually.
